AFL Statement on Terrorist Attack in Israel

Saturday morning, Hamas terrorists launched rockets from Gaza City, bombarding Israel’s city of Tel Aviv, killing at least 70 people and injuring over 900 individuals with many citizens having been captured by these Islamists.

Atheists for Liberty condemns this in the strongest possible way. Jihad is a grotesque activity and concept, and no religious violence should ever happen. Religions, being merely one’s “spiritual” opinion, should never lead to violence.

In retaliation, Israel has launched a counterattack, with Prime Minister Netanyahu saying that Israel was “at war” and Hamas military commander Muhammad Al-Deif saying that this was a response to the desecration of the Al-Aqsa mosque in Jerusalem, attacks on women, and the ever-continuing siege occurring in Gaza.

This is also the same Mosque where Jewish people have gone to pray upon Mount Moriah, where Abraham is said to have offered his son as sacrifice, but since the Al-Aqsa mosque, they do so on the walls outside of it.

Such tensions have been ever growing within, not just the capital of Israel, Jerusalem, but all of Israel, each believing it to be their land, their holy sites.

This must stop and we must come together if we’re ever to have a truly fulfilling life.

Atheists for Liberty will continue to fight for the separation of church and state for all Americans.
