Atheists for Liberty 2024 Summer Internship Program

Atheists for Liberty, a national 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization is seeking unpaid interns for the Summer 2024 semester. As an intern, you would be responsible for learning about the mission and vision of Atheists for Liberty, working alongside committee chairs in their respected fields, and accomplishing daily digital tasks within the organization in order to improve and grow Atheists for Liberty programs. On the pages below are lists of Internship Titles, their descriptions, and requirements. All internship opportunities are unpaid but we are more than happy to write letters of completion, appreciation, recommendation, or other documentation that your school, college, or university requires. 6 of the 7 internship openings are remote with one being in-person on a part time basis. You’ll build upon important skills and learn the inner workings of a national nonprofit.

Operations Intern (In Person)

As an intern on our Operations Team you’d be responsible for:

  • Assist in logistical coordination for events, meetings, or projects by scheduling meetings and preparing documents.
  • Help streamline processes and identify areas for improvement.
  • Conduct research on best practices and emerging trends.

Requirements:

  • Time flexibility.
  • Willingness to communicate with team members across multiple platforms (Discord, Google Meet, Zoom, Facebook Messenger, and Phone)
  • Ability to travel locally with the President to in person meetings and events.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite or Google Workspace.
  • Strong organizational and problem-solving skills and excellent verbal and written communication skills preferred.

Communications/Social Media Intern (Remote):

As a communications intern you’d be responsible for

  • Managing social media platforms, including content creation and scheduling.
  • Conducting research to support communications strategies and campaigns.
  • Supporting the communications team by assisting with the organization of online events, including logistics and promotion.
  • Assisting in drafting press releases, media advisories, and other communication materials and monitoring media coverage and compiling press clippings.
  • Contributing to the development of internal communications materials.

Requirements:

  • A deep interest in developing strong communication skills.
  • Time flexibility.
  • Knowledge of TikTok, Instagram, YouTube, and other social media platforms.
  • A basic understanding of Canva (or similar programs) and Google Workspace programs (Google Docs, Google Sheets..)
  • Willingness to communicate with team members across multiple platforms (Discord, Google Meet, Zoom, Facebook Messenger, and Phone)
  • An interest in developing strong writing and editing skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Graphic Design Intern (Remote):

As an intern on our Graphic Design Team you’d be responsible for:

  • Assist in creating visual content for various projects, including social media graphics, presentations, and marketing materials.
  • Collaborate with team members to brainstorm and develop design concepts.
  • Support in the production process by preparing files for print or digital distribution.
  • Contributing to the maintenance and organization of design assets and files.
  • Staying updated on industry trends and best practices in graphic design.

Requirements:

  • A basic understanding of Canva (or similar programs) and Google Workspace programs (Google Docs, Google Sheets..),
  • Willingness to communicate with team members across multiple platforms (Discord, Google Meet, Zoom, Facebook Messenger, and Phone)
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to work under deadlines.
  • Ability to take constructive feedback from supervisors and apply it to improve design skills and techniques.

Video Production Intern (Remote):

As an intern on our Video Production Team you’d be responsible for:

  • Planning and coordinating video production projects from inception to completion, including pre-production, production, and post-production phases.
  • Maintain quality control throughout the production process, reviewing footage and final edits for accuracy and consistency.
  • Manage post-production workflows, including editing, color correction, and audio mixing, to ensure high-quality deliverables.
  • Stay abreast of industry trends, technology advancements, and best practices in video production management.

Requirements:

  • Time flexibility.
  • Knowledge of TikTok, Instagram, YouTube, and other social media platforms.
  • Willingness to communicate with team members across multiple platforms (Discord, Google Meet, Zoom, Facebook Messenger, and Phone)
  • Interest in learning video editing skills with software such as Adobe Premiere Pro, Final Cut Pro, or similar and learning video file formats, codecs, and compression techniques.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with a team and communicate effectively.
  • Familiarity with a portfolio showcasing relevant video production work is preferable.

IT Department Intern (Remote):

As a remote intern on our IT Department, you’d ideally have experience in one or more of the following areas or be willing to learn the skills needed to work on the following projects: 

  • Helping to manage our Members Discord server, ensuring a safe and engaging environment for users, as well as enhancing the Discord user experience with things such as bots, channel organization, and general usability improvements for members. 

  • Researching new technologies, tools, and best practices in IT operations

  • Maintaining and updating IT documentation, including user guides, system manuals, and knowledge base articles.

  • Updating and maintaining web forms on a wordpress website to improve user experience and data collection processes.

  • Assisting with the redesign and development of the organization’s website, implementing new features and functionality as needed.

  • Participating in IT projects, such as system implementations or software migrations.

Requirements:

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite or Google Workspace.

  • Familiarity with content management systems (e.g., WordPress, Drupal) and web design principles or willingness to learn them.

  • Experience with Discord server management and moderation or willingness to learn.

  • Understanding of user experience (UX) and user interface (UI) design concepts

  • Pursuing a degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Information Security, or a related field.

  • Familiarity with various operating systems (e.g., Windows, macOS, Linux) and software applications desired.
